Section 0: Maybe "skills" are one per skill test, organized into hierarchies so that certain skills contribute to others and certain skill are prerquisites for others. Maybe there are no specific skills you study, maybe you follow a path and as you use it, more abilities open up to your use. Section 1: Advancement Once a skill is learned, the only way to advance it is through use. In general, a skill advances every time it fails. This means that a hero must constantly challenge his abilities in order to improve. Every turn a skill is not used, a skill check is made. If the check succeeds, the skill decays. Skills in a hero's current path will not decay below starting level, skills outside a hero's path will decay all the way to zero. Section 2: Proficiency Description A player does not know exactly how skilled a hero is. The skills are ranked according to two scales: an absolute one and a comparative one. The absolute scale is based on the actual skill level. The comparative is based on what percent of all heroes are better. The Absolute scale is: Novice less than 70 Proficient 70 to 79 Adept 80 to 89 Expert 90 to 99 Master greater than 100 The Comparative Scale is: Below Average 25th percentile or less Average 26th to 75th percentile Above Average 76th percentile and up There is one skill group for every path, plus a generic skill group.
